post 10

This is my last and final post for the week of 2/22/20-2/28/20. This week I have received a lot of guidance and advice from my classmates on what I should put on my post and what would help to make it better. I have talked in greater detail about my scene and have chosen the exact scene I would like to film. Today I will talk about my shooting schedule and when I intend to do all the filming. I have decided that it would be easier for me to begin filming in spring break starting March 19th, as I will have a lot of free time on my hands. I believe I will begin doing the scene at night time in front of a gated building that looks important and that of the government.

This scene will be very short and only be about 15-20 seconds of the total amount of time that my video will be. On the following days I will be going to Markham Park to shoot the scene in what would look like a forest at dawn. Dawn does not usually last much longer than 5-15 minutes. The sun may come up to much and I do not want their to be a lot of sun in my shots and in the scene. For this reason, I may have to go several mornings, not just one, to complete the scene in the woods. The time frame I am thinking is, a minimum of three days and a maximum of 6 days to be able to get all the shots and angles for the scene. After this I will edit and put it together to submit as the opening scene.

Post 9

On today's post I will be discussing what I did in the group meeting and the input I got from them. My meeting consisted of 4 other class members and everyone except one member gave me feedback on what I should do. My scene which consists of a spy stealing national information from the government and being chased by security through the woods, was a popular and liked idea by all of them. They recommended certain buildings and locations I can use for my scene. An example would be using the building behind/next to the Burger King in Weston which is a great idea that Sofia gave me.

They also gave me different locations where I could film the running and the opening scene. This would include Markham park and the gun range in the park. In the park, there is a trail in the back that looks like a realistic forest with trees, shrubbs, grass and many more characteristics that are similar to a real forest. Sofia and Gianna both told me to use this trail as there are many more grassy trails along the back of the park.

The last idea and tip they gave me was to not include guns and gun shots in my scene. Andres, Gianna, and Sofia all were on the same page and recommended that I not include gunshots. They said I can maybe try at the gun range that is in the park, but that it would be tough to film this. All 3 of them of them agreed that instead of using guns and gunshots, there be a lot of cars and automobile noises, stomping and marching from the guards, men talking in walkie-talkies and leaves crunching.

The target audience for the genre Action and Adventure ranges greatly. For my opening scene of Action and Adventure I will be targeting a specific type of audience. The target audience for my opening scene and for this genre typically can range from teen years al the way to adulthood and seniors. For the opening scene i will be creating, my target audience will be a little older and range from adults 18 and older to seniors. I will try and promote this scene by using social media platforms such as instagram and twitter that reach a wide range of people. Snapchat is an example of of a social media platform that is used more for kids in their early teens and 20s but not usually after that age range. Facebook usually has more adults and older people than other social media platforms.

I will focus specifically on Facebook as it usually has more adults and older people than young kids. Facebook everyday has hundreds of millions of people on its application and in a couple of days it attracts more than a billion pair of eyes on its platform. The age range is typically for those above 20 and in their 30s-60s. This app/social media platform will help distribute and show our content to many people not only in one country but around the world. The movie/opening scene will be able to get world recognition and thus it can be more successful. I hope this will help promote the movie and spread the word around about this very interesting and great movie/opening scene.

Today i will be talking about my schedule and organize it well to to have enough time to complete it. So far I have been brainstorming ideas on what types of scenes i am trying to accomplish. First i am doing research on what content is usually scene in Action and Adventure to get a sense of what it should be. After this I will be thinking of the setting and where it will take place, as well as as what time of day it will occur. Next, is what clothing and what exactly will happen in the scene. For the moment i am thinking of a spy entering a high profile government facility and stealing valuable information about national security.

The person will be running through the woods, trying to escape and running for his life. After this I have to think of the camera angles and shots I want to use. I believe I should use many close ups of the spy and those who are chasing him. This will be more successful and will engage the audience more than if they were long or mid shots. Then i have to identify what clothing the characters will be wearing. The spy, wants to blend in to the woods so he might wear an all black outfit or one that camouflages with his surroundings. Finally, i have to ask some of my friends to help me with the camera filming/movement and to help me as they will be the ones chasing me in the scene. So you can get a reference, I will post an image of what I have in mind.

This is my final post for the week of february 15-21. I would like to recap what I have done this week in the other three posts and talk more about it. In the previous posts I have talked about certain examples and opening scenes that i am interested in doing. They are both different from each other and the techniques and elements used in both are very different. One of them will be an action packed scene where the genre action and adventure is seen very easily. It will take place during the daytime and will include multiple characters.

The other opening scene will utilize certain camera angles and shots. Music will also be played to build suspense that something big and important is building up and will happen soon. This opening scene will as well include multiple characters who are seen as mean and very serious. If i choose a scene like this, the setting will be at my house or at a restaurant in a typical bar atmosphere. The clothing that the characters have in the scenes will also help the audience know who the protagonist and antagonist is to build a better picture of what is going on and to have them cheer and want the protagonist to come up on top.

On this post I will be talking about the ways I will make the characters different by appearance. The scene will include multiple characters, who are not very fond of each other. For example, in the car chase scene, there will be someone who is considered the good guy and someone considered the bad guy. The music and angles of the shots will help to reinforce this. The way the character is dressed and whether he looks happy or mad will also help so the audience knows who is the villain of the scene.

To research this I have been looking and searching up what differences would be most apparent. The villain can have scars on his face, and when the camera is pointed at him, it is darker as if he were more in the shadows. He would as an example be wearing dark and black clothing which signifies death and is not a happy color. On the other hand, the hero/ main protagonist would have bright, colorful, and vibrant colors to make it seem that he is the good guy. He would appeal more to the audience and make them choose his side rather than the antagonist.

post 4

On today's post I will be talking about where the filming will take place and the different locations that would be possible. As I said on the earlier post, I believe I will be filming in the daytime for safety purposes and for better shots on the camera. I also believe that there will be multiple characters in the scene and they could be my parents or friends helping me play characters for the scene. One of the locations I have in mind is regional park. This area is big, green and bright which I think will help balance the action scene because it will set a different tone than if it were in a dark area.

Another setting where the scene can take place is right outside regional park on south post road. This is a long road about 3-5 miles longs and the street is well done and does not have any bumps on it. The road is also mostly a straight path without many turns or tight turns. This is good for my safety as well as everyone else who is in the car with me or driving to get me. It is a one way road which helps because it can ensure that there aren't any cars in front of me to be able to drive fast and safely.

Another reason I chose this road is because it is a one way street where I can film a car next to me on the opposite side if the road trying to get me to make it look like a more realistic car chase. There is a sidewalk that is 10 feet from the street which also makes it a good place to be able to film the scene.

post 3

This is my third posting for my portfolio project. I have chosen the genre Action and Adventure to use as my opening scene. The action and adventure genre is,"Action and adventure have long been established features of American and other national cinemas. Associated with narratives of quest and discovery, and spectacular scenes of combat, violence and pursuit, action and adventure films are not restricted to any particular historical or geographic setting. Indeed, the basic elements of conflict, chase, and challenge can be inflected in any number of different directions. As such, action and adventure as cinematic forms are constantly in the process of reinvention, manifesting themselves in a multiplicity of different genres and sub-genres over time. It is nonetheless useful to distinguish between the two terms and the kind of cinema to which they refer, since "action," "adventure," and "action-adventure" are all descriptors with difference valences."

I am still deciding on on what exactly my story will be and what will happen. I think that the setting of the opening scene will be during the daytime. This will make it easier to film because at night special lights need to be used such as flash so the characters are not in the dark. Filming during the night time might also be more dangerous i were to do an action packed beginning scene. An example would be street car racing, which if it were at night would be more dangerous because it is tougher to see.

post 2

In the Action and Adventure genre, the movie openings differ and represented differently. Some movies like to illustrate from the beginning the tone and perspective of the movie. These movies like to show their audience from the beginning that the movie is filled with action. Some of these movies include Indiana Jones, Dunkirk and Casino Royale. All of these get the attention of the audience immediately and display the action that is yet to come.

Another method that movie producers and directors can use as an opening scene is to make it mysterious or intriguing. It can be a conversation with someone about something of great importance that may occur later. It can be thieves constructing a plan on how to break into banks to make money, or simply some men who look like from the Mafia sitting and talking very seriously. All these can capture the audience's attention as it may be important. This first scene where they are talking, can play a role i the rest of the movie and b details of great importance.

The first and opening scene of a movie makes a big deal. It sets the tone and attitude of the movie. If the opening of the movie is not good there is more of a chance that audience members will disengage from the movie and not remember it as well as the opening scene makes one want to watch the rest of the movie and pay attention to it.

Post 1

This is my first post for the cambridge portfolio project thai is due on April 6th 2021. I have started to investigate how I would like the opening scene to start and what it should be about. My first task was to choose particular genre. This will be the " Action and Adventure" genre. I love watching movies and given the budget and time of the opening scene I believe that Action and Adventure is the most suitable genre. I have not yet chosen exactly what will happen in this opening scene, but I have some ideas already in mind.

One of the opening scenes can start with a of car chase around the streets. It can entail there being a good guy or maybe a villain such as as a thief trying to escape from the police or from a certain group of people. This scene may be tougher to film as another car would have to be following us and getting all the angles will be very tough. It may also be a little dangerous as other cars might be on the street. I would also have to include friends or people I know to be in the video because it will require multiple people. Another idea can be two or more people talking suspiciously.

This can happen either outside in a public place such as a park, or maybe at a restaurant. They can all be dressed in dark suits and all the men look very serious as if they do not like to be messed around. They are talking privately at a distance and you notice they have weapons and that things can get violent and deadly at any moment. The camera would zoom in until we see their faces and can hear the conversation. I do not know what the conversation would be about but it would be valuable and important information. This will  help set the tone from the beginning of the film and get people's  attention.

These are only a couple of the starting ideas I invision when  think of Action and Adventure. I picture there being action taking places such as the car chase or some type of mystery/adventure that makes one think that something important may happen and violence may occur at any moment. These are some of my brainstorming ideas for my first post and I will build on it with my Weekly project posts.

Our band name is called the Kryptonics and we are a pop band. At the beginning of our project we exchanged numbers and information to be able to coordinate after the class. We began listening to a list of four songs and decided to choose We Are Young by the band Fun. We landed on this song because it was the most familiar song to all of us and because I personally knew the entire lyrics. We began researching music label companies and putting it on our chart.

We split the research chart into four so everyone would have an equal section of it to complete. Daniel and I focused on Universal Music Group while Ryan and Andres did the research on Sony Music entertainment. We all did our parts correctly and filled the chart with examples and history of the company which would later help us for our presentation. After we had finished our research we brainstormed how we should make the video, where it should be done as well as what video it would be,( promotional, artistic).

I took care of all the storyboarding for the group as i watch a lot of music videos and had ideas mixed with ideas my group members wanted. I watched videos and tried mimicking or using certain aspects of their videos. Some of these include Guns n Roses- Paradise city, Black Sabbath- Paranoid, and poison- nothin but a good time. I spent a couple of hours writing how I wanted it to go and then drew out my ideas on the storyboard. After this my group and I would be ready to begin filming.

We decided to meet on a Tuesday but unfortunately when Ryan arrived at Markham Park it was closed due to Covid vaccinations. We had to reschedule to Friday and decided to move our video filming to a different park that we knew would be open. We all arrived at around 6:00 pm to Regional Park and organized ourselves to see where we wanted to film. We walked around for about 20 minutes and then Andres had a great idea to film ourselves in different locations. We decided to film in a grassy area, underneath a covering where there were tables and benches, in a park, and inside a bathroom. We thought that doing this would be original especially inside a bathroom and park because they are not often used in videos.

Ryan brought a friend over with him to help us with the filming. We began filming the first verse in the grassy area followed by the chorus in the bathroom, the second verse in the benches and the last chorus of the song in the park. I brought from my house WII band music instruments to play because it is easier to bring all these instruments to the park rather than real ones and because we did not have all the real instruments at hand to play. We had five instruments, a microphone, drum set, keyboard, bass, and guitar. We set our stuff up in each location and Ryan's friend filmed us in these locations. We took several band cuts in each scene and did individual cuts where only one band member is playing. We spent a good two to three hours filming and made sure everything was done correctly before we left. When we finished filming we all looked at the videos to make sure nothing was wrong and that we liked it. We were all happy and had fun doing our project. At the end Andres decided to do the editing and worked on it during the weekend.

For our presentation, we started putting content on the powerpoint and divided our work evenly. We decided that our video was going to be promotional and for a younger target audience, so we marketed it that way. We sold shirts and skateboards and well as other products which appealed to a younger audience. We also used platforms such as snapchat and Instagram that are used by younger adults. We divided our work so that Andres who was editing only would have to do 1-2 paragraphs, I would do three paragraphs because I did the storyboarding, and Ryan and Daniel each wrote 4 paragraphs. When it was time to present we decided to split the reading into paragraphs so everyone would alternate after reading one paragraph.

In this project I learned the amount of time and planning that goes in to advertise and market. One has to do a lot of research and know who they are marketing too and who to distribute. This project taught me that teamwork is important because if someone did not complete their research or brainstorming properly, it could have affected our presentation or video. I had a lot of fun being able to work with people and meet them in real life. Researching and writing the necessary content will help me in my Cambridge Portfolio. Knowing certain websites and different points of views/idas my group members had will help me in the future for my Cambridge Portfolio.
